Alexander Robert Stewart (born September 12, 1795 – died March 25, 1850) was an important Irish landowner and a Member of Parliament. This means he was elected to represent an area in the British government.

Alexander Robert Stewart followed in his father's footsteps. He was elected to Parliament for the area of Londonderry in the 1818 general election. He served as a Member of Parliament until the 1830 general election. During his time in Parliament, he supported the government of the day.

High Sheriff of Donegal

Besides being a Member of Parliament, Alexander Robert Stewart also held another important role. In 1831, he was appointed High Sheriff of Donegal. A High Sheriff was a very old and important position, responsible for law and order in their county.

Family Life

On July 28, 1825, Alexander Robert Stewart married Lady Caroline Pratt. Her father was John Jeffreys Pratt, 1st Marquess Camden. Lady Caroline also had family connections to the Londonderry family, making the family ties even stronger.

Home and Legacy

Alexander Robert Stewart lived at his family's large estate called Ards House. This house was located in Dunfanaghy, in County Donegal, Ireland. Today, many of his family's old papers and documents are kept safe in the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland. These papers help historians learn more about his life and times.
