Alexandre Astruc facts for kids
Alexandre Astruc (born July 13, 1923 – died May 19, 2016) was a French film critic and director. He was known for his important ideas about how movies should be made.
Biography
Before becoming a film director, Alexandre Astruc worked as a journalist and wrote novels. He was also a film critic. He had a big idea called the caméra-stylo, which means "camera-pen." This idea suggested that film directors should use their cameras like writers use their pens. They should be able to express their personal thoughts and feelings through film, just like authors do with words. This idea was very important for the auteur theory, which says that the director is the main author of a film.
In 1994, he received the René Clair Award. This award honored all the great film work he had done throughout his career.
