Ali Chaouch (born June 26, 1948 – died August 17, 2020) was an important politician and government minister from Tunisia. He held several key roles in the Tunisian government throughout his career.

About Ali Chaouch
His Early Life and Education
Ali Chaouch was born in Bou Arada, which was part of French Tunisia at the time. He studied at Tunis University and earned a degree in economic science in 1970. After finishing his studies, he started working in different public organizations.
In 1981, he became the director general of a company focused on developing Tunis. The next year, in 1982, he was chosen to lead an agency that worked on improving and renewing city areas.
Working in Government
When Zine El Abidine Ben Ali became the leader of Tunisia, Ali Chaouch took on even more important roles. On November 21, 1987, he was appointed as the leader of the Medenine Governorate, which is like being a governor for a region. After that, he became the CEO of an agency that managed land for housing.
His first step into the main government was on July 31, 1992, when he became a secretary to the Minister of Public Health. This was a big step in his political journey.
Important Minister Roles
Ali Chaouch held several important minister positions.
- From June 15, 1993, to October 9, 1997, he served as the Minister of Housing and Equipment. In this role, he would have overseen projects related to homes and buildings.
- Then, from October 9, 1997, to November 17, 1999, he was the head of the Ministry of the Interior. This is a very significant job, often dealing with national security and local administration.
After these roles, he joined the Social and Economic Council. He also served as the Secretary General of the Democratic Constitutional Rally political party from December 5, 2000, to August 18, 2005.
Later Years and International Work
Ali Chaouch returned to a minister role on August 17, 2005. He became the Minister of Social Affairs, a position he held until January 14, 2010. This role would have involved looking after the well-being of people in Tunisia.
After his time as a minister, he was appointed as Tunisia's Ambassador to Austria. He also became Tunisia's representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency. This agency works on the safe and peaceful use of nuclear energy around the world.
His Passing
Ali Chaouch passed away on August 17, 2020, at the age of 72.
