Dr Alice McLaren (1860 - 1945) was an amazing Scottish doctor. She was a specialist in women's health, known as a gynecologist. She also fought for women's rights and was a suffragist, meaning she supported women getting the right to vote. Alice McLaren was the very first woman doctor to practice medicine in Glasgow.

Early Life and Learning
Alice McLaren was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1860. She was the youngest of six children. She studied medicine at the University of London and graduated with top honors in 1893. She also trained at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary, which is a big hospital.
Her Medical Work
Alice McLaren made history as the first woman doctor specializing in women's health in Glasgow. She worked in many different hospitals and medical places during her career.

- Glasgow Women's Private Hospital, where she was the main doctor in charge.
- Leith General Hospital, where she started working in 1891.
- Glasgow Lock Hospital
- Glasgow Royal Samaritan Hospital
- Royal Mental Hospital, where she was a specialist in women's health.

- Birmingham Union Infirmary
- Stirling District Asylum
Dr. McLaren was also a member of the Glasgow Obstetrical and Gynecological Society. This means she was part of a group of doctors who specialized in childbirth and women's health. In 1902, she helped start the Glasgow Women's Private Hospital with another doctor named Elizabeth Margaret Pace.
Fighting for Women's Rights
Alice McLaren was a very important person in the fight for women's rights. She was one of the first people to join the Glasgow and West of Scotland Association for Women's Suffrage. This group worked hard to get women the right to vote in elections.
Later Years
For a while, Alice McLaren shared a house in Glasgow with her friend and fellow doctor, Elizabeth Margaret Pace. This was at 7 Newton Place. Alice McLaren passed away in Crail in 1945.
