What the Book is About
This book shares the incredible true story of the 2018 Tham Luang cave rescue. Twelve young soccer players and their coach got trapped inside the Tham Luang Nang Non cave in Thailand. The cave became flooded, making it impossible for them to get out. The book explains how this huge rescue mission unfolded.
It also includes cool scientific facts about caves and diving. You'll find photographs and maps that help you understand the story better. It's a gripping tale of teamwork and survival.
How the Book Was Made
The author, Christina Soontornvat, was visiting her family in northern Thailand. This was when the news about the Tham Luang cave rescue first broke. When she returned to the United States, she noticed something. Many news stories didn't fully share the Thai perspective.
Christina wanted to tell the story from a Thai point of view. So, two months after the rescue, she went back to Thailand. Her father helped her by being her translator. She interviewed many volunteers who helped with the rescue. This helped her gather details for the book.
The book was published by Candlewick Press on October 13, 2020. An audiobook version is also available. It is narrated by Quincy Surasmith.
