First awarded | 2001 |
The Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Medal is a special award given each year to the best non-fiction book for children. It's like an Oscar for books that teach you amazing facts! The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), which is part of the American Library Association, started this award in 2001.
The medal is named after Robert F. Sibert, who loved books and helped make sure libraries had lots of them. He was the president of a company called Bound to Stay Bound Books, Inc. This award celebrates books that are "informational," meaning they are full of true facts and help you learn about the world.
What kind of books can win? Informational books are those that explain, organize, and share real, proven facts. This means books about history, science, biographies, and more! However, books of poetry or traditional stories like folktales are not eligible. To be considered, a book must be published in the United States and written in English.
Sibert Medal Winners: Books That Teach and Inspire
The Robert F. Sibert Medal honors authors and illustrators who create outstanding informational books. These books help young readers explore new topics and understand the world around them.
