Christian Robinson (born August 2, 1986) is an American artist who creates amazing pictures for children's books. He also used to work as an animator, making cartoons move. Christian lives in Sacramento, California. He has even worked with famous groups like The Sesame Street Workshop and Pixar Animation Studios. He studied art at the California Institute of the Arts.

Christian Robinson's Life Story

Christian Robinson grew up in Los Angeles, California. He lived with his grandmother in a small home that six people shared. He started his career in animation. But then, a mentor named Ben Butcher inspired him to switch to illustrating children's books. Christian lived in San Francisco for seven years before moving to Sacramento.

Awards and Famous Books

Christian Robinson has won many important awards for his illustrations. One of his most famous books is Last Stop on Market Street. For this book, he received a Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor and a Caldecott Honor in 2016. The author of the book, Matt de la Peña, also won the 2016 Newbery Medal. Matt de la Peña said that Christian's art helped him write the story.

In 2021, Christian worked with Matt de la Peña again on the book Milo Imagines the World. Christian's colorful collage art helped this book become a "Best Book of the Year" in 2022. It also won the Josette Frank Award.

Christian also created "colorful bold line drawings" for Renée Watson's book Harlem's Little Blackbird in 2012. This book was named a "Best Book of the Year" in 2013.

In 2014, he won the Ezra Jack Keats New Illustrator Award for his work on Rain! by Linda Ashman. His "gentle paint and watercolor illustrations" were praised. He also received the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor for Josephine in 2015.

His book Gaston was chosen for an IRA Teachers' Choices Reading List award in 2015. It was also named a "Notable Children's Book" for younger readers.

Christian illustrated Mac Barnett's book Leo: A Ghost Story in 2015. His "moody blue illustrations" helped it become a "Best Book of the Year" in 2016.

He also provided "folk-art style paintings" for a new edition of Margaret Wise Brown's The Dead Bird in 2016. This book received an "Outstanding Merit" award in 2017. He also illustrated Cynthia Rylant's Little Penguins in 2016, which was also a "Best Book of the Year" in 2017.

In 2018, his "evocative mixed-media illustrations" appeared in Matt de la Peña's Carmela Full of Wishes. This book was on the "Best Books of the Year" list in 2019.

His "stylized paint and collage illustrations" were featured in Julie Fogliano's 2019 book Just in Case You Want to Fly. This book also received an "Outstanding Merit" award in 2020. His own picture book, Another, published in 2019, also received an "Outstanding Merit" award in 2020.
