Brian Kane Floca (born January 11, 1969) is an American writer and illustrator of children's books. He is well-known for creating detailed and engaging picture books, especially those about history and transportation. Floca has also illustrated many books for other authors, including the popular Poppy series by Avi. In 2014, he won the prestigious Caldecott Medal for his book, Locomotive. This award is given to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children. He also received an honor for the Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Award for the same book.

Brian Floca was born and grew up in Temple, Texas. He later attended Brown University, finishing his studies in 1991. Today, he lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, where he continues to create amazing books for young readers.
