Allen Payne (born Allen Roberts on July 7, 1968) is an American actor. He is famous for playing Jason Alexander in the 1994 movie Jason's Lyric. He is also well-known for his role as C.J. Payne on the TV show Tyler Perry's House of Payne. This show ran from 2006 to 2012 and then came back in 2020. Allen Payne also played Lance Rodman on NBC's The Cosby Show for its last two seasons. In movies, he was Gerald "Gee Money" Wells in the 1991 film New Jack City. He also played Detective Justice in the 1995 movie Vampire in Brooklyn.

Life and career

Allen Roberts was born in Harlem, a neighborhood in New York City. He was the oldest son of Allen Roberts and Barbara Reeves. He went to Pennsauken High School in Pennsauken Township, New Jersey.

Early acting roles

Payne's first TV job was in 1990 on The Cosby Show. For two seasons, he played Lance Rodman. This character was the boyfriend of Charmaine. After that, Payne appeared in episodes of The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air and Malcolm & Eddie.

Allen Payne has been in many movies. He played "Dead Mike" in CB4, a funny hip-hop movie. He also acted in New Jack City and Jason's Lyric. Since 2006, he has been a main actor on Tyler Perry's House of Payne. He plays the character C.J. Payne. In 2018, he played C.J. Payne again in a spin-off show called The Paynes. However, that show was short-lived. The original House of Payne then came back.

Stage performances

In 2022, Allen Payne started acting on stage. He played "Gee Money" in a play based on New Jack City. This play is called New Jack City: Live on Stage. It was created by Je'Caryous Johnson. He is also set to star in a stage version of Jason's Lyric in 2025.
