Allison Cameron (born 1963) is a Canadian composer and musician. She writes many different kinds of music. This includes modern classical music, pieces for old instruments, and even music for electric instruments like the electric guitar. She also performs music that is made up on the spot, called free improvisation, and experimental music, which explores new sounds and ideas.

Early Life and Learning

Allison Cameron was born in Edmonton, Alberta. Later, her family moved to North Vancouver. She went to college at the University of Victoria and York University. Two important people who influenced her music were Michael Longton and Rudolf Komorous.

Her Music Career

Allison Cameron moved to Toronto in 1989. In 1992, she started a music group called Arcana. This group had six musicians and played modern classical music. In 1995, she released her first CD of chamber music, which is music for a small group of instruments. It was called Raw Sangudo.

In 1998, Allison Cameron wrote a piece called "Retablo." This music was specially asked for by a group called The Burdocks. In 2000, she released another CD called Ornaments. On this album, other talented musicians played her compositions.

Allison Cameron has worked with many famous composers from different countries. These include Louis Andriessen and Frederic Rzewski from Europe, and James Tenney from Canada. She was also a member of a group called the Drystone Orchestra. She often performs in a duet with Stephen Parkinson.

Her music has been played at big events like the Bang on a Can Festival. She has even been asked to write music for the Bang on a Can All Stars. Her recordings have been released by well-known music labels. In 2004, she was the music director for a modern music group called Arraymusic.

In 2013, Allison Cameron formed a band called The Allison Cameron Band. They released an album called Bent Spoon Duo, Without and With Allison Cameron.
