Ally Carter is a popular American author. Her real name is Sarah Leigh Fogleman, and she was born on January 1, 1974. She writes exciting books for young adults and also some novels for older readers.

Why Ally Carter?
Ally Carter chose this name so her books would stand out. She picked "Carter" as her last name on purpose. This was so her novels would be close to books by another author, Jennifer Crusie, in bookstores and libraries.
Ally Carter's Career
How She Started Writing
Ally Carter studied agricultural economics at Oklahoma State University. She also earned a master's degree from Cornell University. In her free time, she started writing. Her first two books, Cheating at Solitaire and Learning to Play Gin, were for adults. After that, she began writing for young adults. She created the popular Gallagher Girls series and later the Heist Society series. She also wrote shorter stories (novellas) based on these series.
The Gallagher Girls Series
Ally Carter's first young adult book was I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You. This story is about a girl who attends a secret spy school. She falls for a normal boy who doesn't know her secret. This book was chosen for a special reading list in Texas for 2007-2008.
The next book, Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy, came out on October 2, 2007. It follows Cammie Morgan's second semester at spy school. She goes on a secret mission against some boys who moved into her school. Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy was on The New York Times Best Seller list for ten weeks.
The third book, Don't Judge a Girl by Her Cover, is about Cammie's junior year. A mysterious group seems to be trying to kidnap or harm Cammie's friend, Macey.
Only the Good Spy Young is the fourth book in the series. It tells what happens after Cammie learns a group called the Circle of Cavan is after her. She also finds her father's secret journal.
The fifth book, Out of Sight, Out of Time, was released on March 13, 2012.
A special short story, Double Crossed: A Spies and Thieves Story, was released as an eBook on January 22, 2020. It connects the Gallagher Girls and Heist Society series.
The sixth and final Gallagher Girls book, United We Spy, was published on September 24, 2013. It describes Cammie's last semester at the Gallagher Academy as she works to stop the Circle of Cavan.
The Heist Society Series
Ally Carter started a new young adult series with the book Heist Society. This series is about a girl named Kat whose family are professional thieves. Kat's father is suspected of stealing valuable paintings from a mafia boss. Kat must find the real thief and get the paintings back to save her father. Heist Society was released on February 9, 2010. It was also chosen for a Texas reading list in 2011.
The second book in the series, Uncommon Criminals, was released on June 21, 2011.
The third book, Perfect Scoundrels, came out on February 5, 2013.
The short story Double Crossed: A Spies and Thieves Story is also part of the Heist Society series. It connects both of Ally Carter's popular series.
The Embassy Row Series
The first book in the Embassy Row series is All Fall Down, published on January 20, 2015. This novel is about a girl named Grace Blakley. She has to live with her grandfather on Embassy Row in Valencia after her mother's mysterious death.
On December 22, 2015, Ally Carter released the second book, See How They Run.
The third and final book in the Embassy Row series is Take the Key and Lock Her Up. This novel was released on December 27, 2016.
Other Exciting Books
Not If I Save You First is a standalone novel published on March 27, 2018. It tells the story of Maddie and Logan, who were best friends. Maddie's dad works for the Secret Service, and Logan's dad is the President. They meet again years later under very dangerous circumstances.
Ally Carter released her first book for middle schoolers on March 3, 2020. It's called Winterborne Home for Vengeance and Valor. This book is about a young girl named April. She must solve the mysteries left by her mother and the Winterborne family. She also tries to find help in a world where she is an orphan.
