Almena Township is a local government area in Van Buren County, Michigan, in the United States. In 2020, about 5,308 people lived here.
History of Almena Township
The first person to settle permanently in Almena Township was Jonas Barber in 1835. The township was officially created in 1842. It is said to be named after a Potawatomi princess.
A man named Samuel Fisk ran a grist mill here. A grist mill is a place where grain is ground into flour. Because of this mill, the settlement became known as Almena Mills. In 1843, a Free Will Baptist Church was started near Covey Hill.
Almena also had a post office. One was called Almena Centre and operated from 1848 to 1849. Later, in 1861, another post office from a place called Brewerville moved to Almena and was renamed. It stayed open until 1905.

The rest, about 0.3 square miles (0.8 square kilometers), is water. This means only a small part of the township is covered by water.
People of Almena Township
In 2000, there were 4,226 people living in Almena Township. These people lived in 1,553 households, and 1,245 of these were families.
Many households, about 37.7%, had children under 18 living with them. Most households, 70.0%, were married couples living together. About 15.5% of all households were people living alone.
