About Almería Cathedral
This amazing cathedral was built in the 16th century. It was needed because an earlier church was destroyed by a big earthquake. Construction started in 1524 and finished in 1562.
Unique Design and Style
The cathedral has a mix of two cool architectural styles: Gothic and Renaissance. What makes it really special is that it was also built to be a fortress! This means it has strong walls and towers, like a castle, to protect people from attacks. The last bell for the cathedral was made in 1805.
A Protected Landmark
The Almería Cathedral is considered a very important historical building in Spain. It is protected by a special heritage listing called Bien de Interés Cultural. This means it's a national treasure that must be preserved. It was officially declared a historical-artistic monument on June 3, 1931.
