History of Alonsa
Early Days and the Railroad
Alonsa started growing a lot in the early 1900s. This was because a railroad line came to the community. The railroad helped people and goods move in and out. However, the train tracks never went past Alonsa. In 1961, the train service stopped completely. When the trains left, fewer people lived in Alonsa. Today, you can reach Alonsa by Provincial Trunk Highway 50.
2018 Tornado Event
On August 3, 2018, a very strong tornado hit Alonsa. This tornado was rated as an EF4 tornado. It caused a lot of damage in the area. It was the strongest tornado in Canada that year. It was also the first tornado of its kind since 2007. The community worked hard to recover after the storm.
