Alphitomancy facts for kids
Alphitomancy is an old way of trying to guess who did something wrong. It uses special cakes or bread made from barley.
Imagine a group of people, and someone in the group was thought to have done something bad. To find out who it was, everyone in the group would eat a piece of barley cakes or barley bread. The idea was that the person who was guilty would feel sick or have a tummy ache after eating the bread. But everyone else, who was innocent, would feel perfectly fine. It was believed that the bread would somehow show who was telling the truth and who wasn't!
