Alphonse Poirée (born 31 December 1883 in Gron – died 14 November 1922 in Villepinte) was a brave French pilot. He was known for his service during World War I and later became a test pilot, helping to try out new airplanes. He received important awards for his service, including the Order of St. George and the Knight of the Legion of Honor.

A Pilot in World War I

During World War I, Alphonse Poirée served as a pilot. He was assigned to work with the Russian Army, flying missions and helping with their efforts. Pilots like him played a very important role in the war, often flying early airplanes for scouting or fighting.

Life as a Test Pilot

After the war ended, Alphonse Poirée continued his passion for flying by becoming a test pilot. This job involves flying new or modified aircraft for the first time to make sure they are safe and work correctly. It's a very important but also risky job, as test pilots are the first to discover any problems with a new plane's design. Sadly, Alphonse Poirée passed away in an accident while testing a new plane called the Caudron C 74.
