Discovering Alstroemeria garaventae
This plant is a specific species within the larger group called Alstroemeria. Think of a species as a unique kind of plant that can reproduce with others of its kind.
What Are Its Subspecies?
Alstroemeria garaventae has two main subspecies:
- Alstroemeria garaventae subsp. garaventae: This is the main type of the plant.
- Alstroemeria garaventae subsp. longaviensis: This is a special kind found in specific valleys.
Differences Between Subspecies
The Alstroemeria garaventae subsp. longaviensis is a bit different from the main type.
- Its tepals (which are like petals and sepals combined) are smaller.
- Its inflorescence leaves (the leaves near the flower cluster) are also smaller.
Where Does It Grow?
These plants grow in different places and at different heights:
- Alstroemeria garaventae subsp. garaventae grows high up in the mountains. You can find it at altitudes from about 1,200 to 2,000 meters above sea level.
- Alstroemeria garaventae subsp. longaviensis grows much lower down. It's found at altitudes from about 240 to 390 meters. This subspecies grows in the Achibueno and Ancoa valleys. These valleys are more than 100 kilometers south of where the main subspecies grows.
