Alvin Elmore Alcorn (born September 7, 1912 – died July 10, 2003) was an American jazz trumpeter. He was known for his long career playing jazz music, especially in his hometown of New Orleans.
Alvin Alcorn's Musical Journey
Alvin Alcorn learned about music from his brother. In the early 1930s, he joined a band called the Sunny South Syncopators. This group was led by Armand J. Piron.
Alcorn also played in Texas with Don Albert's swing band. However, he spent most of his career in New Orleans. There, he played in "dixieland" bands. Dixieland is an early style of jazz music. He performed with famous bandleaders like Paul Barbarin, Sidney Desvigne, Oscar Celestin, and Octave Crosby.
In the 1950s, Alvin Alcorn moved to Los Angeles. He joined the band of another jazz legend, Kid Ory. After a few years, he returned to New Orleans. In the late 1970s, he went on a tour in Europe with Chris Barber. Alcorn continued to play his trumpet and perform music into the 1980s.
