Ama is found on the west side of the mighty Mississippi River. It is just west of the Jefferson Parish line. In 2020, about 1,290 people lived in Ama.

History of Ama
The name "Ama" has a special origin. It was chosen to honor Amazalie Perret. She was the daughter of the local postmaster, who was in charge of the post office.
