Amanda Brugel (born March 24, 1978) is a talented Canadian actress. She grew up in Pointe-Claire, a town near Montreal, Quebec. Amanda started her acting journey in 1999 with the drama film Vendetta.
Since then, she has appeared in many movies and TV shows. Some of her well-known films include the horror movie Jason X (2001), the drama Room (2015), and the superhero film Suicide Squad (2016).
On television, Amanda has starred in several popular series. She played Michelle Krasnoff in Seed (2013–2014) and Marci Coates in Orphan Black (2015). She is also known for her roles as Nina Gomez in Kim's Convenience (2016–2021) and Rita Blue in the drama The Handmaid's Tale (2017–present). In 2021, Amanda became a judge on Canada's Drag Race.

Early Life and Education
Amanda Brugel was born in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, Canada. Her mother came to Canada from England. Her biological father was African-American. Later, her mother married a man who was of South Asian and Jewish background. He adopted Amanda, and she considers him her father.
Amanda first started as a dancer. However, she stopped dancing when she became taller than her dance partners. She then joined the famous Theatre Program at York University. She received a special scholarship for her talent in fine arts. In 2000, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
Acting Career Highlights
Amanda Brugel began her acting career in 1999. Her first role was in the HBO drama film Vendetta. She acted alongside famous actor Christopher Walken in this film. In 2000, she appeared in A Diva's Christmas Carol, a Christmas television film. This movie starred Vanessa Williams.
Her first big movie role was as Geko in the horror film Jason X (2001). She also starred in the horror TV movie Kaw (2007).
Television Roles
Amanda has appeared in many TV shows. She had guest or recurring roles in series like Soul Food (2001) and Saving Hope (2012). From 2013 to 2014, she was a main character, Michelle Krasnoff, in the comedy series Seed.
In 2015, she played Marci Coates in the science fiction series Orphan Black. She also had recurring roles as Sita Petronelli in Eyewitness (2016) and Sonia in Workin' Moms (2018). For Workin' Moms, she was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award.
Since 2017, Amanda has been a main cast member in The Handmaid's Tale. She plays Rita, a housekeeper, in this popular show. The series is based on a famous novel by Margaret Atwood. As part of the cast, she has been nominated three times for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
From 2019 to 2020, Amanda played Faith Hanlon in the teen drama series Dare Me. In 2020, she appeared as Eugenia in the drama series Snowpiercer.

In 2014, Amanda appeared in the drama film Maps to the Stars. She also acted in the crime thriller The Calling with Susan Sarandon. In 2015, she played Officer Parker in the drama film Room. This movie was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture.

In 2021, it was announced that Amanda would join the judging panel of Canada's Drag Race. She became a main judge for the second season. She won a Canadian Screen Award with the other judges for their work on the show.

Amanda Brugel has two children from her previous marriage.
