Amanda Brugel (born March 24, 1978) is a Canadian actress known for her roles in popular TV shows and movies. She was born and raised in Pointe-Claire, a town near Montreal, Quebec. She has appeared in many different types of films, from comedies to superhero movies.
Some of her famous roles include playing Rita Blue in the popular series The Handmaid's Tale and Pastor Nina in the comedy Kim's Convenience. She has also been a judge on the reality show Canada's Drag Race. Throughout her career, Amanda has won several awards for her acting, including two Canadian Screen Awards.

Early Life and Education
Amanda Brugel was born in Pointe-Claire, Quebec. Her mother is English, and her adoptive father, who raised her, has a South Asian and Jewish background. She has said that she considers her adoptive father to be her dad.
As a child, Brugel was a talented dancer. However, she decided to stop dancing when she became taller than her dance partners. She then focused on acting and attended York University. She received a scholarship for her talent and graduated in 2000 with a degree in Fine Arts.
Acting Career
First Roles on Screen
Amanda Brugel started her acting career in 1999. Her first role was in the TV movie Vendetta. Soon after, she appeared in films like the horror movie Jason X (2001) and the TV movie A Diva's Christmas Carol (2000).
For many years, she had guest roles in several Canadian TV shows. These included Soul Food, Flashpoint, and Covert Affairs. She also had a main role in the soap opera Paradise Falls in 2008.
Breakthrough and Major Roles
In 2013, Brugel starred in the comedy film ... After Kids. Her performance was a big success. She won an ACTRA Award for Outstanding Female Performance for this role. From 2013 to 2014, she also starred in the comedy series Seed.
Brugel continued to appear in major projects. She had a role in the science fiction series Orphan Black in 2015. That same year, she played a police officer in the award-winning film Room. In 2016, she was part of the cast of the superhero movie Suicide Squad.
Success with Kim's Convenience and The Handmaid's Tale
From 2016 to 2021, Brugel played Pastor Nina Gomez in the much-loved CBC comedy Kim's Convenience. This role earned her a Canadian Screen Award for Best Guest Performance.
In 2017, she began her role as Rita Blue in The Handmaid's Tale. The show is a dystopian drama, which means it is set in a dark, imagined future. Her character is a housekeeper who becomes an important part of the story. For her work with the cast, she has been nominated for several Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Recent Work and Canada's Drag Race
Brugel has stayed busy with many other roles. She appeared in the TV series Workin' Moms, Snowpiercer, and the action movie Becky.
