Amanda Stewart (born in 1959) is an amazing Australian artist. She is known for her poetry and for creating art using sound and performances.

Amanda started writing and performing poetry in the 1970s. Since then, she has made many different kinds of art, including sound pieces, videos, and multimedia projects. In the 1980s, she worked for ABC radio, where she helped create shows. In 1988, she won a special award called the Åke Blomström Award for her radio work.

Creative Projects and Collaborations

In 1989, Amanda helped start a performance group called Machine for Making Sense. She worked with other artists like Chris Mann, Rik Rue, Jim Denley, and Stevie Wishart. Later, in 1995, she formed another group called Allos. Her work has taken her all over the world, including tours in Europe, the United States, and Japan.

Amanda also helped write and direct a film in 1990 called Eclipse of the Man-Made Sun. This film explored how nuclear weapons were shown in popular culture. She also wrote an opera called The Sinking of the Rainbow Warrior with composer Colin Bright. This opera was performed in Sydney Harbour in 1997 as part of the Sydney Festival. It was later made into a radio show by ABC Radio National.

Her book and CD collection, I/T, which included poems from 1980 to 1996, won the Anne Elder Award for poetry in 1999. This shows how important her work is in the world of poetry.
