Amaya Uranga Amezaga, born on February 18, 1947, is a famous Spanish singer from Bilbao. She is best known for being part of the popular music group Mocedades for 15 years. She is also a cousin of the film director Pablo Berger.
Biography
Amaya helped start the group Mocedades in 1969. The group began with eight members. Over time, the members changed. Amaya, her sister Izaskun, and her brother Roberto, along with three other male singers, became the main six members. This group is often called the "historic six."
In 1973, Mocedades became very famous. They came in second place at the 1973 Eurovision Song Contest. Their song was called "Eres Tú." After this, the band became very successful. They had many hit songs in Spain and in countries across Latin America. Amaya was the lead singer on many of Mocedades' most popular songs. These included the worldwide hit "Eres Tú" and another famous song, "Tómame o Déjame."
Solo Career and Later Years
Amaya Uranga left Mocedades in 1984. She wanted to start her own singing career. While she released her own music, she did not become as famous as she was with Mocedades.
In the mid-1990s, Amaya joined a new music group. This group was called El Consorcio. She has also appeared on many Spanish-language TV shows. In 2011, Amaya performed from a wheelchair. This was after she broke her femur, which is a bone in the leg.
