History of the Wright House

Ammi W. Wright grew up on a farm in New England. In 1851, he moved to Saginaw, Michigan. Saginaw was a growing town back then. In 1854, he built this house for his family.

Over the next 20 years, Ammi Wright became very successful. He invested in sawmills and other businesses. As Saginaw grew, so did his wealth. In 1878, Ammi Wright moved away. He gave his businesses in Saginaw to his brother, William Wright.

William Wright then lived in the house built in 1854. He lived there until he passed away. After his death, the house was given to his children, Harriet and Robert. They also lived in the historic home.

What Does the House Look Like?

The Wright House is a two-story farmhouse. It has a special "T" shape. The house shows off a style called Italianate architecture. This style was popular in the mid-1800s.

A tall tower stands at the front of the house. It has a roof that looks like a triangle. The windows are tall and have fancy carvings around them. There is also a bay window, which sticks out from the house. A front porch has a metal roof. A small building that used to be a carriage house is now part of the home. It was turned into a dining room.
