The house is special because of its age and the interesting people who lived there. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 31, 1983. This list includes places that are important to American history.

About the Amos Fuller House

The Amos Fuller House is located on Nehoiden Street in Needham. It sits on a large piece of land, over 3 acres (about 1.2 hectares) in size. There is also an old barn from the 1800s next to the house.

The house is made of wood and has two and a half stories. It has a roof that slopes down on two sides. There's also a part of the house that sticks out at the back. This part is sometimes called a "Beverly jog."

A Look at the House

The house used to have a large chimney in the middle. But this chimney was removed in the late 1800s. An extra section was added to the back of the house. There is also a porch that is now closed in on one side.

Who Lived Here?

The Amos Fuller House was built in 1754 by Amos Fuller. He was the son of Thomas Fuller, who was one of the very first settlers in Needham. Amos Fuller might have even used wood from his father's older house to build his new one.

Amos Fuller was an important person in Needham. He served as a selectman, which means he was one of the town's leaders. He also served in the state legislature, helping to make laws for Massachusetts.

In 1830, Amos Fuller's son, Reuben, sold the house. A person named Reverend William Ritchie bought it. He updated the inside of the house. The barn next to the house was likely built around this time.

Later, in 1852, Artemas Newell bought the property. He was a well-known lawyer in the area. A street nearby, Newell Avenue, is named after his family.

Another owner in the late 1800s was Augustus Newell. He was one of the first people in the region to make concrete blocks.
