Scientific classification

Anacithara hebes is a type of sea snail. It is a small marine mollusk that belongs to the gastropod group. This snail is part of the family called Horaiclavidae.

About This Snail

The shell of Anacithara hebes is quite small. It usually grows to about 5.5 millimeters (mm) long. This is roughly the size of a grain of rice. The shell is also narrow, with a width of about 2 mm.

The shell has a unique shape, like two cones joined at their wide ends. It is a solid shell and is always a plain white color. It has six main sections, called whorls, which are angled at the top, like a small shoulder.

The shell also has low, rounded ridges, called ribs. These ribs are close together. There are about eleven ribs on the second-to-last whorl. They become less noticeable on the largest part of the shell. Fine lines, called spirals, also cover the shell. These lines are evenly spaced and cross over both the ribs and the spaces between them.

Where It Lives

This sea snail lives only in Australia. When a species lives only in one specific area, it is called endemic. You can find Anacithara hebes off the coast of Queensland, a state in northeastern Australia.
