About the Anacithara rissoina Shell
The shell of Anacithara rissoina can grow up to 6 millimeters (about 0.24 inches) long. Its width is around 2 millimeters (about 0.08 inches).
Shell Appearance
The shell is quite strong and has a long, slender shape. It's rounded at the bottom and a bit blunt at the top. Its color is usually a dull white. You might see faint orange spots on the back of its main body part.
Shell Structure
This snail's shell has six spiral turns, which are called whorls. These whorls are rounded and slightly squeezed where they join together.
The shell also has rounded ridges, known as ribs. These ribs are spaced out and go all the way to the bottom of the shell. There are about twelve ribs on the second-to-last spiral turn.
Fine spiral lines cover the shell. These lines are all about the same size and spacing. They cross over both the ribs and the spaces between them. You can find about eight of these lines on the second-to-last spiral turn. There are about twenty on the main body of the shell.
Shell Opening
The opening of the shell, called the aperture, is wide and smooth. It has a broad, raised ridge called a varix. The notch on the shell, known as the sinus, is wide and not very deep. The siphonal canal, which helps the snail breathe, is just a small notch.
Where It Lives
This marine snail is endemic to Australia. This means it is found only in Australia and nowhere else in the world. Specifically, it lives off the coast of Queensland.
