Scientific classification |
Anacithara robusta is a type of sea snail. It's a marine gastropod mollusk that belongs to the family Horaiclavidae.
What is Anacithara robusta?
This small, strong sea snail has a shell that looks like two cones joined together. It's usually dull white with a pink tip, which is called the apex.
Shell Details
The shell of Anacithara robusta is about 5.5 mm long and 2 mm wide. It has six spirals, or 'whorls'. This includes the very first tiny spiral when it was a baby, which is called the protoconch.
The shell has strong, raised lines called 'ribs'. These ribs don't connect perfectly from one spiral to the next. They stick out a bit around the middle and then fade away towards the bottom. There are about nine ribs on the second-to-last spiral. Many thin, swirly lines cover both the ribs and the spaces in between them. Two of these swirly lines are bigger and spaced further apart than the others. They go around the middle of the shell and up towards the top, which is called the spire.
The opening of the shell, called the aperture, has a thick edge, like a protective lip. A part of this lip sticks out into the opening. It also has a curved notch, called the sinus. The siphonal canal, a short tube that helps the snail breathe, is open.
Where Does It Live?
This marine species lives only in Australia. It is found off the coast of Queensland.
