The Andalusia Bridge is a special kind of bridge called a cable-stayed bridge. It crosses the Guadalquivir River in Córdoba, Spain. This bridge helps connect the city's airport with an industrial area. It was opened on February 28, 2004.

About the Andalusia Bridge

The Andalusia Bridge is about 210 meters (689 feet) long. A public company called GIASA manages and operates it.

Building this bridge took a bit longer than planned. This was because it was built piece by piece right on site. It didn't use many parts made in factories beforehand. This made the construction very unique and complex.

A famous engineer named Javier Manterola designed this bridge. He won a big award for engineering in 2001. Other engineers, Antonio Martínez Cutillas and Javier Muñoz Rojas, also worked on the project. The company OHL built the bridge.

About 40,000 vehicles use the bridge every day. It connects to the A4 freeway, which is a major road.

How the Bridge Was Built

The entire bridge structure is 444 meters (1,457 feet) long. It has eight main sections, called spans. The longest spans are the ones that go over the Guadalquivir River. These are 114 meters (374 feet) and 90 meters (295 feet) long.

The main part of the bridge is like a strong concrete box. This box is about 10 meters (32 feet) high and 30 meters (96.8 feet) wide. Inside this box, there are empty spaces.

To make the long sections strong, special steel cables are used. These cables are anchored inside the concrete box. They help support the sides of the bridge.

The bridge connects to a large circular road. This road then leads to a special curved ramp. The concrete used for the bridge is very strong. It is designed to meet high building standards.
