Who Was Andrés Fernández Pacheco?
Andrés Fernández Pacheco was born and died in Madrid, the capital of Spain. His father and grandfather were both leaders of the Royal Spanish Academy. This academy is a very important group that helps protect and improve the Spanish language.
Early Life and Family
Andrés followed in his family's footsteps. He became a member of the Royal Spanish Academy when he was just 16 years old. This happened on April 25, 1726.
In 1727, he married Ana María de Toledo Portugal y Córdoba. She was the 11th Countess of Oropesa. They had two daughters together before she passed away in 1729. Later, in 1731, Andrés married for a second time to Isabel María Pacheco Téllez-Girón y Toledo.
Leading the Royal Spanish Academy
When his father died in 1738, Andrés took over as the third lifetime Director of the Royal Spanish Academy. He was 28 years old at the time. This was a very important job, as he was in charge of guiding the academy's work.
Andrés Fernández Pacheco was also given a special honor. He became a Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece. This is one of the oldest and most respected knightly orders in Europe. It shows that he was highly regarded by the Spanish monarchy.
He passed away in 1746 when he was 36 years old. After his death, his daughter, María López Pacheco, became the next Duke of Escalona.
