Andriy Mykolayovich Kotelnyk (Ukrainian: Андрій Миколайович Котельник), also known as Andreas Kotelnik, is a former professional boxer from Ukraine. He was born on December 29, 1977. He competed in boxing from 2000 to 2014. Kotelnik held the WBA super-lightweight title from 2008 to 2009. Before becoming a professional, he won a silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics as an amateur boxer.

Becoming a Boxer: Amateur Career
Andriy Kotelnyk started his boxing journey as an amateur. He showed great talent early on.
Early Wins
- In 1995, he won the Junior European Championship. He competed in the flyweight division in Siofok, Hungary. This was a big win for him.
- In 1997, he took part in the World Championships. This event was held in Budapest, Hungary. He competed as a featherweight. He won against Kenneth Buhlalu and Roman Rafael. He then lost to Falk Huste.
Olympic Success
- In 2000, Kotelnyk went to the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He competed as a lightweight. He won a silver medal, which is a huge achievement.
- During the Olympics, he defeated several strong opponents. These included Larry Semillano, Raymond Narh, Nurzhan Karimzhanov, and Cristian Bejarano.
- His only loss at the Olympics was to Mario Kindelan from Cuba.
Professional Boxing Journey
Andriy Kotelnyk began his professional boxing career in December 2000. He quickly made a name for himself.
First Professional Fights
- His first professional fight was on December 16, 2000. He won by knockout in the first round against Peter Feher.
- In January 2003, he won his first major title. This was the WBA Inter-Continental light-welterweight title. He won by a unanimous decision against Fabrice Colombel.
- He successfully defended this title two times.
Challenging for Titles
- In October 2004, he had his first professional loss. It was a close fight against Souleymane M'baye.
- In July 2005, he challenged Junior Witter for the European light-welterweight title. He lost this fight.
- Later in 2005, he won back the WBA Inter-Continental light-welterweight title. He also won the WBO Asia Pacific light-welterweight title. He defeated Muhammad Abdullaev for these titles.
Becoming a World Champion
- In March 2007, he had a rematch with Souleymane M'baye. This time, M'baye's WBA world title was on the line. The fight ended in a draw.
- Almost exactly one year later, on March 22, 2008, Kotelnik became a world champion. He won the WBA light-welterweight title. He defeated Gavin Rees by technical knockout in the final round.
- He defended his world title successfully two times. He beat Norio Kimura in September 2008. He also had a very close win against Marcos Maidana in February 2009.
Later Career Fights
- In his third title defense, Kotelnik lost his WBA title to Amir Khan. Khan won by a clear unanimous decision.
- After a break, he returned to fight Devon Alexander in August 2010. Alexander held the WBC and IBF light-welterweight titles. Kotelnik lost this fight by unanimous decision. Many people thought this decision was unfair.
- Kotelnik took another long break from boxing. He returned for one final fight on October 4, 2014. He won this farewell fight against Alexander Benidze. He won by a dominant unanimous decision over eight rounds.
