1stLordFraser
A painting of Andrew Fraser, the 1st Lord Fraser.

The Lordship of Fraser was a special title given to a family in Scotland. It was created on June 29, 1633. This title was given to Andrew Fraser and his male family members. It meant they were part of the Peerage of Scotland, which was a group of important noble families.

The title ended in 1720. This happened after the 4th Lord Fraser passed away. He had been involved in a big historical event known as The Fifteen, which led to the title ending.

Who Were the Lords Fraser?

The Lordship of Fraser was held by four different people:

  • Andrew Fraser, 1st Lord Fraser (died 1636)
  • Andrew Fraser, 2nd Lord Fraser (died 1657)
  • Andrew Fraser, 3rd Lord Fraser (died 1674)
  • Charles Fraser, 4th Lord Fraser (died 1720)

Another Fraser Title: The Jacobite Peerage

After the main Lordship of Fraser ended, another special title was created. This was called the Lord Fraser of Muchalls. It was part of the Jacobite peerage. This title was given to Charles Fraser of Inverallochy on July 20, 1723. Charles was the grandson of Margaret Erskine, who was the wife of the 4th Lord Fraser.
