André Quitich (born 1951) is an Atikamekw leader and politician from Canada. He served as the Grand Chief and President of the Atikamekw Nation from 2013 to 2014. This is a very important leadership role for his people.

Early Life and School Work

André Quitich was born in Manawan, Quebec, Canada. For over 40 years, he worked at Otapi High School. He held important jobs there. He was the General Manager and also the Director of Administrative Services and Finance. This means he helped run the school and manage its money.

Political Journey

From 2004 to 2007, André Quitich worked as a Deputy Negotiator. This role involved helping Indigenous groups with their land claims. These are agreements about land and rights between Indigenous peoples and governments.

On August 27, 2013, he was chosen as the Grand Chief and Chairman of the Atikamekw Nation. He took over this role from Eve Ottawa. As Grand Chief, he was the main leader for his community.

During his time as Grand Chief, he played a big part in land claim discussions. He helped the Atikamekw people gain control over a large area of land. This land, called Nitaskinan, is very important to their history and culture. It covers more than 80,000 square kilometers.
