Anthony Lovell (born 28 July 1970) is a former Australian rules footballer. He played for the Melbourne Demons and West Coast Eagles. These teams are part of the AFL. After his playing career, Lovell became a coach. He is currently an assistant coach for the Gold Coast Suns.

Early Life and Nickname
Anthony Lovell was born on July 28, 1970. When he was a teenager, he was a skilled wood chopper. This hobby earned him the nickname 'Chopper'. His father, Greg Lovell, was also a world champion in wood chopping.
High School Football
Lovell attended Melbourne High School for one year in 1988. He was a key player on the school's top football team. Other future AFL players were on that team too. These included Matthew Knights, Stephen Tingay, Stephen Ryan, and John Ahern.
Playing Career
Lovell started his professional football journey with the Glenorchy team in Tasmania. He was then recruited by the Melbourne Football Club.
Debut Season with Melbourne
Lovell made his debut in the 1988 VFL season. In his first year, he played in the Grand Final. Unfortunately, his team, Melbourne, lost to the Hawthorn Football Club. Lovell played as a ruck-rover. This position means he was good at getting the ball from stoppages. He was also good at kicking goals.
Career Highlights
In a game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in 1993, Lovell had a fantastic performance. He kicked eight goals against the Richmond Tigers. His team won that game by a huge 121 points. The year before, in the 1992 AFL season, he finished second in Melbourne's Best and Fairest award. This award is called the Keith 'Bluey' Truscott Medal. It goes to the team's best player for the season.
Moving to West Coast
For the 1996 AFL season, Lovell was traded to the West Coast Eagles. He played in their midfield for three years. After the 1998 season, he retired from playing professional football.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Lovell moved into coaching. He became the coach of the Sandringham Zebras team. This team plays in a league below the AFL.
Current Coaching Role
Andy Lovell is currently an assistant coach for the Gold Coast Suns. He helps the main coach and works with the players to improve their skills.
