Angela Spalsbury facts for kids
Angela Sue Spalsbury (born in 1967) is an American mathematician. She studies a special kind of math called functional analysis. She was once the president of Pi Mu Epsilon, which is an honor society for math students.
Today, Dr. Spalsbury is the dean and chief administrator at the Geauga campus of Kent State University. She also co-wrote a book about a math topic called Haar measure. The book is titled The Joys of Haar Measure.
Her Journey in Education
Angela Spalsbury went to Kent State University for her first degree, a bachelor's degree. She then earned two master's degrees. One was from Kent State and the other from the University of Pretoria in South Africa.
She completed her highest degree, a doctorate, at Kent State in 1996. For her doctorate, she wrote a big research paper. It was about special math ideas called Cyclic Vectors and Extremal Vectors of Linear Operators. Her professor, Per Enflo, helped her with this work.
Teaching and Leadership
From 2001 to 2017, Dr. Spalsbury taught at Youngstown State University. She became the head of the math and statistics department there from 2013 to 2017.
She also helped lead a student group called the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) at Youngstown. This group helps encourage girls and young women to study math. Because of her help, the group won an award for their efforts to support female students in mathematics.
In 2018, Dr. Spalsbury returned to Kent State University. She became a dean, which means she helps lead and manage a part of the university.
