What is Animac?
Animac is a special event that brings together animated films from all over the globe. It happens every year in Lleida, a city in Spain. The festival shows a wide variety of animated works. You can see everything from short films to longer features. It's a great place to discover new animation styles and stories.
How Animac Started
The festival began in 1996. It was created to celebrate a big milestone: the 100th anniversary of cinema! When it first started, it had a different name. It was called Cinemagic 96, International Animation Film Festival.
The first festival was led by Eladi Martos and Jordi Artigas. It was supported by Lleida’s Cultural Department and the local Fine Arts School. They also worked with a group called ASIFA Catalunya, which is all about animation.
The Name Changes Over Time
In 1997, the festival got a new name: Animac, International Animation Film Festival. This name stuck for a while. Then, in 2006, the name changed one more time. It became the official name we know today: Animac, International Animation Film Festival of Catalonia.
In 2012, Animac celebrated its 16th anniversary. It continues to be a popular event for animation lovers.
