Her Early Life and Education
Anjelika Akbar was born Anjelika Rosenbaum into a Jewish family. Her mother was a professional musician, and her father was a philosopher who also led an orchestra. Anjelika showed amazing musical talent from a very young age. She could play the piano and read music before she was even three years old!
She started taking private piano lessons at age three. Her first teacher was V. Lipovetsky, who helped start the Chinese Harbin Conservatory and taught at the Moscow Conservatory.
When she was four, it was discovered that she had absolute pitch. This means she could identify any musical note just by hearing it. Because of this special talent, she was accepted into the Uspkensky State Music School. This was a special Soviet school for child prodigies, which are children with extraordinary talents. Musicians from the Moscow State Conservatory became very interested in her.
She continued her studies at the Tashkent division of the same school. Other famous child prodigies, like Alexei Sultanov, also studied there. Anjelika spent 11 years studying piano and composition with several professors. After that, she went to the Tashkent State Conservatory for five more years. There, she finished her education in composition, which is writing music, and orchestration, which is arranging music for an orchestra. She also continued her piano studies.
Her Musical Career
Anjelika Akbar moved to Turkey in 1990. She went there to write music for a film about world ecology. She and her husband decided to stay in Turkey and became Turkish citizens. In 1993, she earned a special degree called "Proficiency in Art." This degree is like a doctorate for composers. For her thesis, she studied the works of Russian composer A. Skriabin. She also composed her own "Symphony No.1."
In 1999, Anjelika released her first album called "Su" (which means "Water"). It featured her own short piano pieces called preludes.
A big moment in her career was in 2002. She released the first-ever solo piano version of Vivaldi's famous "Four Seasons." This album was released by Sony Music International. It became the first Turkish classical music album in Sony Classical's collection. Also in 2002, she performed on the album "Bir'den Bir'e" with other artists.
Since 2003, Anjelika has been working with composer Ali Darmar. In the same year, she released her album "Bach A L'orientale." On this album, she mixed the music of classical composer Bach with sounds from Oriental instruments.
In November 2005, she released another album called "Bir Yudum Su" (A Drop of Water). This album included her own compositions and arrangements.
Anjelika has performed many of her own works. She performed her Piano Concerto No.1, called "Sevgi Çemberi" (Circle of Love), for the first time at the 10th International CRR Piano Festival. Her symphonic poem "Kutsal İmler" (Sacred Signs) was also performed by a symphony orchestra. This piece was written for Indian instruments and a symphonic orchestra.
She also composed a special piece for Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the first president of Turkey. This piece was called "Güneşin Doğduğu Ufuk-Piyano ve Senfonik Orkestra için Rapsodi" (Horizon where the Sun Rises - Rhapsody for Piano and The Symphonic Orchestra). The Symphonic Orchestra of Turkey performed it for the first time.
Anjelika Akbar has composed over 400 musical pieces. These include works for choirs, pianos, and other instruments with symphony and chamber orchestras. She has performed in many concerts in countries like Russia, France, Germany, India, Qatar, Turkey, and Northern Cyprus.
In November 2009, she was featured in an article in "Skylife," the official magazine of Turkish Airlines.
In March 2016, Anjelika composed and directed the music for a digital exhibition called "Picturesque Istanbul." This exhibition showed famous paintings of Istanbul from about 200 years ago. After the exhibition, she performed her concert "Oriental Rhapsody."
