Ann MacIntosh Duff RCA (July 14, 1925 – December 3, 2022) was a talented Canadian artist. She was especially known for her beautiful watercolor paintings.

Ann MacIntosh Duff was born in Toronto, Canada, on July 14, 1925. Her father's cousin, Walter R. Duff, was also a painter. Ann often painted in two main places. She worked at her home in Toronto. She also painted at her cottage in Pointe au Baril, Ontario, near Georgian Bay. Ann liked to paint from her memories. She called these works "landscapes of the mind." This means she painted places she imagined or remembered.

Her Art Training

Ann studied art at the Central Technical School in Toronto from 1944 to 1946. There, she learned from artist Peter Haworth. She also spent summers studying at Queen's University in Kingston. During these times, she learned from other artists like André Biéler and Caven Atkins.

Joining Art Societies

Ann MacIntosh Duff was very active in the art community. In 1951, she became a member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC). She was an active member of this group for 30 years. She also joined the Ontario Society of Artists in 1961. In 1963, she became part of the Canadian Society of Graphic Art. Later, in 1973, she was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy. Being part of these groups showed how important her art was.

Exhibitions and Recognition

Ann's work was shown in many places. In 2007, the Tom Thomson Art Gallery in Owen Sound held a special show of her art. It was called To Love and To Cherish. This type of show, called a retrospective, looks back at an artist's work over many years.

Her paintings are held in important collections. These include the National Gallery of Canada. Her art is also part of the Royal Collection, which belongs to the British Royal Family.

Awards and Later Life

Ann MacIntosh Duff received several awards for her art. In 1977, she was given the Queen's Jubilee Medal. This award celebrates important contributions to Canada. In 1984, she received an Honorary Award from the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour. Ann's art was represented by the Nicholas Metivier Gallery in Toronto.

Ann MacIntosh Duff passed away at her home in Toronto on December 3, 2022. She was 97 years old.
