The Anna–Dean Farm is a special historic farm located in Barberton, Ohio, Ohio, United States. It's recognized as an important historical site. This farm is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Several buildings on the farm are also famous in their own right!

Discovering the Anna–Dean Farm's Story

The Anna–Dean Farm was the big idea of an American businessman named O.C. Barber. He dreamed of creating a huge, modern farm. This "superfarm" would be just outside of Barberton. He started buying land for it as early as 1900.

Building a Dream Farm

Construction on the farm began in 1907. The first building was a concrete poultry (chicken) house. The main building work truly started in 1909. It was a massive project that continued until 1913.

Mr. Barber spent a lot of money on this farm. It cost over $1,000 every day for construction. The total cost reached about $7 million. The farm grew to have 35 separate buildings. Some people say there were 102 buildings. This probably included older buildings that were made part of the farm.

The Grand Mansion

The most important building on the farm was a huge mansion. It had 52 rooms and was built in the Beaux Arts architecture style. This beautiful house was constructed between 1909 and 1910. Sadly, the Barberton Historical Society says it was taken down in 1965.

What Happened to the Farm?

O.C. Barber passed away in 1920. After his death, most of the buildings on the farm were torn down. Luckily, the Barberton Historical Society has worked hard to save some parts. They have successfully preserved and fixed up 6 of the original buildings. Two other buildings are still standing and are privately owned.

Famous Buildings at Anna–Dean Farm

Besides the farm itself, several buildings here are also very important. They are individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are recognized as historically significant.
