Anna Sokolina, PhD, is an American architect, scholar, and curator. She is known for her important work and writings about architecture. Anna Sokolina has written many research papers and academic reviews. She has also given presentations at numerous conferences.

Her studies often focus on how women have contributed to architecture around the world. She also looks at how architecture connects with history and different cultures. Some of her other interests include "Paper Architecture" (designs that are drawn but not always built) and how architecture relates to ideas about utopia or spiritual science.

Among her many publications, she edited The Routledge Companion to Women in Architecture. She also contributed to The Routledge Companion to Biology in Art and Architecture.

Anna Sokolina's Life and Education

Anna Sokolina studied architecture at the Moscow Institute of Architecture. She earned her PhD in the history and theory of architecture. She also has a special certificate in arts administration from New York University.

She gained experience by interning at famous museums like the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She also worked at the Morgan Library & Museum. Her work experience includes being an architect and a research associate. She also curated (organized) art exhibitions at the Tabakman Museum of Contemporary Art.

While she was a professor at Miami University, she helped organize art galleries. She also worked on committees that promoted diversity and inclusion. Anna Sokolina also helped donate important collections to university libraries.

Anna Sokolina was one of the first independent curators to organize "Paper Architecture" exhibitions. These shows traveled through Germany and France in the early 1990s. She was also one of the first lecturers from outside the former Soviet Union to be invited by the European Academy of the Urban Environment. This was part of a UNESCO program about sustainable cities.

The International Archive of Women in Architecture (IAWA) at Virginia Tech keeps many of her professional records. This includes her publications, artworks, and research papers. She also helped bring over 25 collections from other women architects to the Archive.

As an artist, Anna Sokolina has shown her work in many exhibitions. Five of these were at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her artworks are now held in many public and private collections. She is currently working on a book about architecture in East Germany. She is also editing a book by the IAWA founder, Milka Bliznakov.
