Bascove was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1946. She went to the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. There, she earned her college degree. Today, she lives and works in New York City.
Bascove has also worked with many famous writers. These include Robertson Davies and Jerome Charyn. She designed book covers for Vintage Books in the 1980s. She also created the cover for William Goyen's book Had I A Hundred Mouths.
