Early Life and Education

Anne Chamney was born on 16 April 1931. Her parents were Eleanor Margery Hampshire and Ronald Martin Chamney. She had an older brother named John. Anne was special because she was ambidextrous, meaning she could use both her right and left hands equally well.

From age nine to sixteen, Anne attended an all-girls school. After school, she continued her studies at the Royal Aeronautical Society. In 1953, she started working as an apprentice at the De Havilland Aircraft Company in Hatfield. This was a big step in her engineering career.
