Anne Karin Elstad (born January 19, 1938 – died April 4, 2012) was a famous author from Norway. She was best known for her exciting book series, especially the one about a character named Julie.

About Anne Karin Elstad
Anne Karin Hestnes was born on January 19, 1938, in Halsa, Norway. She grew up in a place called Valsøyfjord in Møre og Romsdal county.
She studied to become a teacher from 1959 to 1963. Anne Karin worked as a teacher until 1978. After that, she decided to become a full-time writer.
Her First Books
Anne Karin Elstad published her first novel in 1976. It was called Folket på Innhaug. This book was the first of four popular novels. They were all about the people who lived at a place called Innhaug.
The other three books in this series are Magret (1977), Nytt rotfeste (1979), and Veiene møtes (1980).
The Julie Series
Elstad also wrote another very popular series of four books. These books were all about a character named Julie.
The first book in this series was simply called Julie (1993). The next books were Som dine dager er (1995), Lenker (1998), and Fri (2000).
Best-Selling Novels
Many of Anne Karin Elstad's books became best-sellers. Her novel Odel was one of the most popular books in 2003.
Another book, Hjem (2006), sold over 100,000 copies. She even won a special award for it called Leserprisen. This award is given based on what readers think of a book.
Later Life and Writing
Anne Karin Elstad continued to be involved in the writing world. She was on the board of the Norwegian Authors' Union from 1983 to 1987. She also served on the board of the Norwegian Authors' Centre from 1991 to 1997.
In 2006, a special collection of her work opened. It was in an old schoolhouse in Otnesbukta. Anne Karin Elstad herself was there for the opening.
When she passed away, she was working on her fourteenth novel. We don't know how much of it was finished. It is also not known if this last book will ever be published.
Health and Passing
Anne Karin Elstad faced some health challenges during her life. In 1992, she had a stroke that affected her body. She had to work hard to learn how to walk, talk, and write again. This meant she couldn't write new books for almost eight years.
Anne Karin Elstad passed away on April 4, 2012. She was at her home in Oslo, Norway. Her family said she died peacefully in her favorite chair. She was doing a crossword puzzle, which she loved to do.
