Anne Lloyd's Life Story
Anne Lloyd was born in Teaneck, New Jersey. Her family moved to Great Cove when she was young, during a tough time called the Great Depression. In 1943, she married her high school sweetheart, William Vincent.
Anne started her singing career with a group called the Robert Shaw (conductor) Collegiate Chorale. She also sang with popular "big bands" that traveled around. These bands played a type of jazz music that was very popular back then. After World War II ended, the big band music style started to change. Anne looked for new ways to use her singing talent.
In 1948, she joined a new record company called Golden Records. This company was just starting up. Anne became one of the most active singers for Golden Records. She often sang as part of a group called the Sandpipers. This group, led by Mitch Miller, made many records for Golden.
Anne Lloyd continued to sing after she left Golden Records in the mid-1950s. However, she did not make any more recordings. She passed away in 1999 from cancer in Great Neck. She and her husband had lived there since 1949. Anne also recorded music for another company called Bell Records.
Anne Lloyd's Music Legacy
Anne Lloyd made more than 100 records for Golden Records. Many of these were on smaller records called Little Golden Records. These songs were a big part of growing up for millions of American children in the 1950s.
While many famous voices sang for Golden Records, Anne Lloyd's songs were some of the most remembered. Her clear voice and fun style made her a favorite for children's music.
