Her Career

In the U.S. Navy

Annie Andrews joined the Navy in 1983. She started her career at Naval Station Whiting Field in Florida. There, she helped with training and coordinated flight simulators. Her next job was as an intelligence officer in Hawaii.

After these first assignments, Andrews took on many leadership roles. She was a director in Iceland, helping sailors with counseling. Then, she led Navy support teams in the Philippines.

Andrews moved to Washington, D.C., where she held more important jobs. She managed a program to find sailors who had left without permission. She also worked on planning for Navy staffing needs. Later, she became a special assistant to a high-ranking Navy official.

Before her final Navy role, she worked on strategic studies. She then became the director of the Total Force Requirements Division. Her last major work in the Navy was in recruiting. She led the Boston Military Entrance Processing and Recruit Training Command. Here, she helped train over 100,000 sailors.

In 2013, as a Rear Admiral, Andrews became the commander of the United States Navy Recruiting Command. This meant she was in charge of all recruiting for the Navy. She oversaw efforts to bring new people into both the active and reserve parts of the Navy.
