Early Life and Family
Anthony Grey was the only son of Henry Grey, 10th Earl of Kent. His mother was Amabel Benn. Her father, Anthony Benn, was a respected lawyer who served as the Recorder of London.
Anthony also had a sister named Elizabeth Grey. She married Banastre Maynard, 3rd Baron Maynard.
Marriage and Children
Anthony Grey married Mary Lucas. She was the only surviving child of John Lucas, 1st Baron Lucas of Shenfield.
Anthony and Mary had two children together:
- Henry Grey, 1st Duke of Kent (1671–1740)
- Amabel Grey
Becoming Earl of Kent
When his father, Henry Grey, passed away in 1651, Anthony Grey inherited the title. He became the 11th Earl of Kent. He held this important position for many years, until his own death in 1702. After Anthony passed away, his son, Henry Grey, took over the title.
