In the past, Antioch was home to two key types of businesses:

  • A sawmill: This was a place where logs were cut into planks and boards. These materials were super important for building houses, barns, and other structures in the area.
  • A gristmill: This mill was used to grind grains like corn and wheat into flour. People would bring their crops here to be processed, which was essential for making bread and other foods.

Antioch's Post Office History

For a while, Antioch even had its own post office! It was called "Antioch Mills" and it helped people send and receive letters and packages. This post office was open from 1872 until 1904. Having a post office meant that Antioch was an important center for the surrounding farms and homes.
