Antoine Pevsner (born January 30, 1886 – died April 12, 1962) was a famous sculptor. He was born in Russia. His younger brother, Naum Gabo, was also a well-known artist. Both Antoine and Naum are seen as pioneers in modern sculpture from the 1900s.

A Life in Art

Antoine Pevsner was born Natan Borisovich Pevzner in a town called Oryol, in the Russian Empire. His family was Jewish. He and his brother Naum Gabo were very important in a new art movement called Constructivism. This art style focused on building sculptures from different materials. They also helped create Kinetic Art, which is art that moves.

Pevsner and his brother found new ways to use metals. They used welding to join pieces of metal together. This was a new idea for art at the time. Antoine Pevsner believed that art should be "inspiration controlled by mathematics." He was one of the first artists to use a blowtorch to create sculptures. He would weld copper rods onto his artworks.

In 1920, Antoine and Naum Gabo wrote something called the Realist Manifesto. This was a statement of their ideas about art.

Pevsner left the Soviet Union in 1923. He moved to Paris, France, and lived there for the rest of his life.
