Antonino Cuffaro's Life Story

Antonino Cuffaro grew up in a family that cared a lot about workers' rights. His father, Domenico Cuffaro, helped start the Communist Party of Italy. He was also a leader for farmers and miners in Sicily.

Education and Early Career

After finishing school, Antonino became a naval and mechanical engineer. He was very good at his studies! He then moved to a place called Aquileia. Later, he became an engineering teacher at a technical school in Trieste. He also worked as an engineering consultant.

Joining Politics

Antonino Cuffaro joined the Italian Communist Party. In 1962, he was chosen to be a city council member in Trieste. This meant he helped make decisions for the city. From 1967 to 1976, he also served as a regional council member for Friuli-Venezia Giulia. In 1969, he joined a special committee for his party, staying there until 1991.

Serving in Parliament

Antonino was elected as a Deputy in the Italian Parliament three times. He served from 1976 to 1987. A Deputy is like a representative who helps make laws for the country.

From 1979 to 1988, he was in charge of scientific and technological research for his party. He also helped with rebuilding areas after a big earthquake in 1976. This work helped people in Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto get back on their feet.

Changing Parties and Later Roles

When his first party changed, Antonino joined the Communist Refoundation Party in 1991. In 1993, he tried to become a leader for this new party but was not chosen. From 1994 to 1996, he became a Senator. A Senator is another type of representative in the Italian Parliament.

In 1998, Antonino joined another party, the Party of Italian Communists. He worked as an Undersecretary for Scientific Research from 1998 to 2001. This meant he helped guide government work related to science.
