Antonio Victor Pildáin y Zapiáin (born January 17, 1890 – died May 7, 1973) was an important Spanish religious leader. He was a bishop in the Roman Catholic Church. From 1936 until 1966, he served as the Bishop of the Diocese of Canarias. This area includes several of the beautiful Canary Islands.
His Life and Work
Antonio Pildáin was born on January 17, 1890. His birthplace was Guipúzcoa in the Basque region of Spain. He decided to study to become a priest.
He studied in two different cities. First, he went to Vitoria-Gasteiz in Spain. Then, he continued his studies in Rome, Italy. He became a priest on September 13, 1913.
On May 18, 1936, a very important leader, Pope Pius XI, chose him for a special role. He was named the bishop of the Diocese of Canarias. This diocese covers parts of the Canary Islands. These islands include Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura.
Bishop Pildáin worked in this role for many years. He retired from his duties in 1966. He passed away in Las Palmas on May 7, 1973.
