Early Life and Training
Antonio de Arfian came from Triana, which is a neighborhood in the city of Seville, Spain. We don't know the exact years he was born or when he died. However, we know he was still alive and working in 1587. He learned how to paint from another well-known artist named Luis de Vargas.
Important Artworks
Antonio de Arfian worked on several big art projects. He painted in different styles, including frescoes (paintings done on wet plaster walls) and oil paintings.
One of his most important works was a large altar-piece for the Seville cathedral. He painted this in 1554. He worked on this project with another painter named Antonio Ruiz.
Later, in 1587, Antonio de Arfian painted a piece called Legend of St. George. He created this painting for the Church of the Magdalene. His son, Alonzo, helped him with this artwork.
